Free thought (or freethought, if you wish), in a general sense, is a process by which truth is determined by considering facts and evidence using logic, reason and rationalism. According to a Wikipedia post, the term originated in the 17th century to describe a process by which persons inquired into the basis of traditional religious beliefs and that is how the term is being used here. We are using it as an umbrella term to include humanism, atheism, agnosticism, skepticism or any other such system which questions established religious dogma.
The Kansas City Metropolitan Area is home to a variety of robust organizations and individual bloggers dedicated to free thought. Additionally, groups exist in many cities outside of the metropolitan area and in the high schools, colleges and universities in the region. National groups further enhance free thought opportunities. If you are a secular humanist, atheist, agnostic, skeptic or other freethinker or just want to learn more, most of the groups will welcome you to share in their activities.
